The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at Khalifa University held its inaugural CMHS Undergraduate Research Conference on May 2nd, 2025. This milestone event was organized in collaboration with the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Student Chapter and the ASBMB Student Chapter, with the goal of showcasing cutting-edge undergraduate research in the fields of Biomedical Engineering (BMEB) and Biological Sciences (BS).
The conference featured 20 oral presentations and multiple poster exhibitions, highlighting Senior Design Projects, Independent Studies, Student Research Projects, and Mubadala-sponsored work. The organizing committee was chaired by Dr. Gihan Elbait and Dr. Maria De Fatima, supported by faculty supervisors and student volunteers from both chapters.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Kinda Khalaf, followed by an engaging Kahoot research quiz that served as an interactive icebreaker. Presentations then proceeded across both morning and afternoon sessions, covering a diverse range of biomedical and biological topics. A structured judging session was held for both oral and poster presentations, with certificates and awards distributed to recognize outstanding research efforts.
Logistics, catering, social media promotion, and on-site coordination were managed by designated subcommittees. The event also provided opportunities for interdisciplinary networking and academic collaboration among students, faculty, and guests.
This successful first edition set a strong foundation for future undergraduate research events at CMHS, fostering a culture of innovation, scholarly communication, and student leadership.
