Khalifa University has partnered with Microsoft and Hevolus Innovation to deliver the Metaversity Hackathon Competition with the aim of nurturing innovation and creativity among university students in the UAE.

The competition is an opportunity for students to experiment with cutting-edge technologies and will serve as an innovation platform to empower students to generate value-driving ideas, inspire a competitive spirit and build metaverse readiness. Students will have an opportunity to build a mixed reality application for Microsoft HoloLens 2, an ergonomic, untethered mixed reality holographic device that was recently launched in the UAE.

Mixed Reality has the power to improve learning results and revolutionize curriculum with hands on lesson plans that convey complex concepts in 3D. With Microsoft HoloLens 2, students can learn-by-doing from anywhere with holographic instructions and assessments.

Aligned with Khalifa University’s mission and vision of becoming an education destination of choice and delivering world-class education, the Metaversity Hackathon Competition will challenge students to build a new mixed reality application for Microsoft HoloLens 2 using Microsoft mixed reality technologies that innovates one or more of the following aspects of universities: teaching, learning and assessments.

The project application prototype should answer the question:

“How can metaverse technologies transform how universities educate and assess students?”
